April is National Serger Month!
The Community Service Neighborhood Group meets on a regular basis to complete sewing projects that benefit various community needs.
Members who cannot attend meetings may work on the projects at home. if you need assistance, contact Patrice Hayes. She would be glad to help you.
Every year we participate in the Project Linus Quilt project. Project Linus is a
non-profit organization that provides blankets made by Blanketeers to children in need of a hug. Currently, the quilts are delivered to all of the Kosair Hospitals, Children First, and other local organizations. Ninety percent of the blankets stay within the Louisville Metro Area. However, when a disaster strikes the blankets may be sent to help the survivors in other areas.
Other projects include making:
Christmas Stockings filled with school supplies
Kindness Caps and Scarves for people going through cancer treatment
Meeting in person now at:
Middletown Christian Church
500 Watterson Trail, Louisville
10:00am - 2:00pm
Project Linus Quilts
In March, we will finish up our Project Linus quilts. You may use any design that you wish. I have lots of material that you can use and some batting. Just let me know what you need. These blankets are given to children birth through 18 who are in need of comfort.
If you are finished with your Project Linus quilts, you could begin working on Kindness Caps, Port Pillows and Hosparus quilts.
Bring your lunch and a drink. We have access to a kitchen if you want to reheat anything.
If you wish to sew on Community Service items at home, contact me and we can make arrangements. If you turn in any items on your own, that we are making for Community
Service, please let me know so I can include them in my count. Even though our group concentrates on specific projects at the meetings, you may work on any project any time during the year.
